Tickets for the 23rd-annual Smith Mountain Lake Charity Home Tour are for sale at area ticket outlets .
Admission prices for the 2013 tour, which will be held Columbus Day weekend, Oct. 11–13, are the same as last year: $20 in advance and $25 on tour days.
Tour officials are offering a new option for ticket purchasers this year. Tickets purchased online at www.smlcharityhometour.com using a credit card or PayPal account will be designated as e-tickets, which will be mailed to the purchaser’s home address or held for pickup on tour weekend.
Retail ticket locations at SML and in surrounding areas will offer tickets only until noon on Oct. 10.
In addition to ticket information, photos and descriptions of the homes; more information about the benefiting charities; directions; and conditions are available on the website.
The event benefits eight 501(c)(3) charities whose service areas include the three counties that border Smith Mountain Lake — Bedford, Franklin and Pittsylvania. Charities participating this year are: Agape Center; Bedford Pregnancy Center; CASA of Central Virginia; Feeding America Southwest Virginia; Free Clinic of Central VA; Free Clinic of Franklin County; Lake Christian Ministries; and SML Good Neighbors.
Each participating charity is responsible for recruiting volunteers to help staff one of the eight homes that will be open to visitors from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and from 1 until 5 p.m. on Sunday. Charity volunteers also help promote the event and identify sponsors.
“Over 90 percent of revenue from ticket sales and sponsorships is passed directly through to charity operating budgets,” said Bill Piatt, who volunteers as the tour CEO and board chair man.
Completed applications from charities that wish to be considered for tour participation in 2014 must be submitted by Oct. 25. An application form and more details are available by clicking the Charities tab on the home tour website.
