Grab your beer steins  and running shoes

An Oktoberfest will be held in conjunction with Smith Mountain Lake YMCA’s 5K Trail Race on Oct. 19. The festival will be held at Westlake Towne Center from noon until 5 p.m.

Oktoberfest, sponsored by The Willard Companies, will include the Sauerkraut Band performing authentic German-style music in traditional Bavarian-style clothing, as well as local band Barefoot West. The event will feature a children’s play area, German food and an Oktoberfest beer brewed by Sunken City Brew ing Company.

Admission is $5. Children 13 and younger are admitted free. The event will be held rain or shine.

The 5K Trail Race will start at10:30 a.m. at Westlake Towne Center, wind through the Jack-O-Lantern Branch Heritage Trail at the Booker T. Washington National Monument and end at Oktoberfest.

Commonwealth Timing will record race times. Awards will be given to the top -3 male and female runners, and to the top finishers in each age bracket.

Race registration is $25 and $15 for participants 13 and younger. T-shirts will be given to the first 100 who register. All proceeds benefit the Smith Mountain Lake YMCA.
