Ramulose Ridge Vineyards, a family-owned-and-operated winery, will open Thursday in Moneta. It will offer nine varieties of inhouse-produced white, red and blended wine with prices ranging from $8-$20.
Jim Ramaker, who owns the winery with son Mitchell, said he eventually expects to produce 14 different types of wine.
The winery’s main building, which is situated on a hill overlooking 5 acres of grape plants, houses a wine-tasting room and production facilities on the lower level. Upstairs is a 1,100-square-foot event space that opens onto a large patio with spectacular views of the idyllic Bedford County countryside. The event space is available to lease for events such as large parties and weddings, according to Ramaker.
Ramaker’s wife, Sandi, the resident wine expert, said she expects a Viognier, a white wine; and Cabernet franc, a red, to be the premium offerings this year.
Mitchell Ramaker’s wife, Michelle, is in charge of sales at the winery.
Sandi and Jim Ramaker bought the property in 1996 as a weekend getaway. In 2004, they planted the first grapevines on the 100-acre property. Last year, the grapes came to fruition.
The winery will be open Thursdays through Sundays from noon until 5 p.m.
