Bart Matthies and Bill Daly have been named co-chairmen of the 2013 Jim Cameron Memorial Walk, which will be held Sept. 21 at Smith Mountain Lake State Park. Proceeds from the second-annual walk will benefit Lake Christian Ministries.
Chris Cameron again will serve as honorary chairman in tribute to her late husband, for whom the walk is named. Jim Cameron, LCM’s executive director from 2003-2010, was known for his tireless efforts managing day-to-day operations, as well as for his dedication to helping those in need.
Last year, 339 participants helped raise more than $27,000 in pledges, an amount that organizers anticipate exceeding this year.
At a recent planning meeting, it was announced that $10,000 from an anonymous donor already has been received.
“This extremely generous donation will cover all our expenses, with several thousand dollars going to LCM client service areas,” Matthies said. “It also means all subsequent pledges and other sponsorships will now go 100 percent to LCM.”
Several teams already have started the sign up process, Matthies said. Individuals also are welcome and encouraged to participate.
“Walk teams make this event the best ever,” Daly said. “Match your company against another, one civic group versus another, one neighborhood challenging another, all to make it fun.”
For more information about the walk or to become involved as a walker, sponsor or volunteer, contact Matthies at 912-9141 or Daly at 797-6032.
