What's it like to work in The Roanoke Times’ newsroom?
The Roanoke Times wants you to join our staff of eight award-winning photojournalists. The Times is committed to strong photojournalism in print and online.
The 10-week paid summer internship will run from late May/early June to August. This is an advanced internship where you will be working on daily assignments as well as stories and multimedia projects. Current students and recent graduates are eligible. Our interns are treated as staff photographers and are closely supervised and coached. You will cover a wide range of daily assignments and be strongly encouraged to find and produce daily and in-depth stories.
Applicants must have digital camera equipment, a valid driver’s license and a car in good working order. Some multimedia and video experience is expected.
The Roanoke Times is the largest circulation newspaper in Southwest Virginia. We consistently rank in the top five newspapers in NPPA’s Region 3 for clip wins and have a commitment to strong photojournalism. Among our interns are Hearst and CPOY winners, Eddie Adams participants, Fulbright scholarship and Scripps-Howard winners.
Finally, how to apply:
Portfolios demonstrating exceptional ability in progressive visual storytelling through the use of still images, Soundslides, video and multimedia presentations will stand out. The ability to work collaboratively as part of a creative team is essential.
If you are ready for a challenge and to be a better photojournalist at the end of it, check back in the spring of 2011 for application information.
