Linda Perdue has been with the Pet Pals volunteer program at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for about six years. She goes to Carilion any time, even on weekends, to bring Delta certified dogs to the patients.
"Our top priority is pediatrics. They pet the dogs, take pictures. It just brings smiles to their faces to see someone who isn't going to give them a shot," Perdue said.
A dog must take classes and be trained to become Delta certified. The dogs are given a strict test to pass for certification. They must pass the test every two years.
This year, Perdue donated to the Good Neighbors Fund in honor of Pet Pals and the program's dog owners.
"I love doing it," Perdue said of the program. "I've got great dogs and great people. I appreciate their time and what they do."
