Veteran and wife grateful for home medical care
To show their appreciation for the Home-Based Primary Care from the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Salem, Jack and Evelyn Frantz donated to the Good Neighbors Fund.
"I think a lot of people appreciate this service. It's a blessing and an asset," said Evelyn Frantz.
As a veteran of World War II, Jack Frantz receives homebound care from the VA, which allows him to get care without having to visit the hospital. Homebound care is for those who need care but don't need to be hospitalized.
Nurses, dieticians, occupational therapists and other professionals come to patients' homes for checkups and to advise patients about their health, medicine, diet and exercise.
Evelyn Frantz said that the VA in Salem is a large facility and said that the home visits save the patients from the wear and tear of having to navigate around the hospital in wheelchairs and with walkers.
"It is convenient and we look forward to people coming here. They are upbeat," Frantz said. "We have nothing but high regard for the service."
