Total amount raised

Mike and Margaret Jones recognized a member of their neighborhood with their donation to The Roanoke Times' Good Neighbors Fund. They donated in honor of Steve Goddin, in emulation of the community spirit they said he demonstrates.

As manager of the Cave Spring Kroger store on Brambleton Avenue, Goddin helps many local organizations and groups with donations of food and other goods for fundraisers. Mike Jones said Goddin always encourages philanthropy.

Jones said he thinks Goddin is very supportive and a good neighbor to the community. The store that Goddin manages is like a "neighborhood gathering place as in times gone past," Jones said.

The couple said Goddin is kind to everyone and has become a friend in the store whom they are always happy to see. Mike Jones said the store employees are kind to the customers and to one another, and they seem to enjoy working with Goddin.

"He's just a good neighbor," Jones said.
