The Original Royal Kings annual Holiday Reunion Show is happening again, but this time, there's a shagtastic twist.
The Embers, a paragon of the ever-popular beach music style, are headlining the show. The band actually has one original member, drummer/bandleader Bobby Tomlinson, who helped form the act in 1958, according to bio information at the group's Web site. Despite many lineup changes, the Raleigh, N.C., band remains a favorite among shag dancers and a musical institution along the Carolinas coastline.
Expect to see a passel more original members with The Original Royal Kings, an act that was so well-loved from the mid-1960s through the '80s that the legendary nightspot the King's Inn was named for it. Plenty of musicheads went for Salem's Rhythm Doctors back in the day, too. The Rhythm Doctors and The Breeze Brothers will be loaded with original members, too.
If you don't have quite the zip you had in decades past, you can catch the music and still get home reasonably early. The show is scheduled to end before midnight.
