p>Festival planners often promise "there will be something for everyone," but in the case of the fourth annual Magic in the Mountains festival in the Alleghany Highlands, it is undoubtedly true.

We're talking wine tastings, antique tractors, quilt shows, a kayak paddle, an arts and crafts show, live rock and jazz, and live theater. But you wanted ventriloquist dummies, dogs in costume and a mustache and beard contest? They'll have that, too!

The festival, which will be spread across Clifton Forge, Covington and Douthat State Park in Alleghany County, kicks off Friday and lasts through June 28.

The festival begins with an opening ceremony at Clifton Forge's Veterans' Park at noon Friday. The first weekend's festivities, including a 40-vendor arts and crafts show, will largely occur in downtown Clifton Forge, but Covington takes over the second weekend with a "Rock the Block" party at Mid-City Mall featuring the band The Worx, a beer fest and a Harley Davidson gathering.

The entire schedule can be viewed at the festival Web site.
