Here's a chance for you -- or at least your cheers and applause -- to be on a quality compact disc product.
Asheville, N.C., act Galen Kipar Project is recording its Thursday show at Kirk Avenue Music Hall. Kipar, a talented guitarist, harmonica player and singer, has a way with words and with the tunes he wraps around them. On Thursday, he teams up again with recording engineer Jake Dempsey, who was on board for Kipar's last three albums.
If you know Kipar's work, listen for some old songs that have grown in form and arrangement, a couple of never-recorded old numbers and "a handful of new tunes," Kipar wrote in an e-mail.
For this recording, Kipar brings Jon Morrow (8-string guitar, bass) and Jeremy Young (drums). Roanoke Valley multi-instrumentalist Camellia Delk will join the group on viola, violin and harmony vocals. Delk played and harmonized with Kipar for last year's excellent "Paper Sailer."
Thursday is also Kipar's birthday, so if you yell "happy birthday" real loud, you might just hear yourself on the disc when it is released in the fall.
