May I suggest ...

A feature that asks readers to suggest books to others

In spite of the title, "Three Cups of Tea" by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin is a book that both men and women will find inspiring. It's an account of how one man can make a difference. Mortenson (a climber) and Relin (a journalist) wrote this book about Mortenson's failure to climb K2 (the world's second highest mountain) and how he became involved with the people of Pakistan and Afghanistan in a humanitarian effort.

Realizing the desperate need for schools (especially for girls) in the remote areas of this beautiful country, he decided to embark on a monumental task of building a school. After soliciting donations and buying the necessary supplies, he realized that he first needed to build a bridge to get the supplies to the remote village.

Fifty-five schools later, he is still building. In the process of dealing with the local villagers in determining their needs, he drank many cups of tea. The first cup, you are a stranger, the second you become a friend, and by the third, you join the family.
