FloydFest 7’s theme is “Family Affair.” And it’s loaded with the fest’s musical family members, both old and new.
In the “old” column, you have Donna the Buffalo, who have played Floyd several times. David Grisman, the Avett Brothers, Railroad Earth and New Monsoon have also seen their share of Julys in the Patrick County hills.
In the “new” column, you have Amos Lee and Rusted Root. Also new to FloydFest are African pop stalwart Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi, Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk, Blueground Undergrass, Tea Leaf Green and many more.
If you’re into the homegrown music scene, you can see at least eight bands from the Roanoke and New River valleys, and several more with ties to the region.
Music and other performances begin Thursday on seven stages — including one specifically for children that features puppet shows and parades — at the Blue Cow site.
To see which stages your favorites are hitting, go to http://atwproductions.com.
Don’t sweat too much if you might have to miss a band one day, because that same band is likely to be on another stage or two before the festival is over.
