Candied Fruit Slices

1 cup butter (don’t cheat and use margerine, the butter makes a BIG difference)

1 cup sifted powdered sugar

1 unbeaten egg

1 tsp. vanilla

2 1/4 cups flour

1 cup pecan halves

2 cups candied green and red cherries, halved

Cream butter and sugar together, blend in egg and vanilla. Stir in flour, then add pecan halves and candied cherries, mix well.

Chill one hour; divide into three parts and shape into three rolls 12 inches long. Wrap in waxed paper and chill at least three hours. Slice into 1/8 inch slices and place on ungreased cookie sheets. They spread some, but not a lot, so you don’t have to leave much space betweeen them. Bake at 325° for 13-15 minutes, until edges are delicately brown. If you use insulated cookie sheets, the baking will take about 20 minutes.
