Alice Scott's Scalloped Oysters

¾ cup melted butter

¾ cup stale bread crumbs

1 ½ cups cracker crumbs (Saltines work well)

1 ½ pints oysters

6 Tbsp. oyster liquor or cream

Salt and pepper to taste

Toss bread crumbs and cracker crumbs well with melted butter. Butter an 8 x 8 shallow baking dish. Place about 1/3 of the buttered crumbs in the bottom. Add a layer of oysters and pour over it ½ of the liquid. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Repeat layer of crumbs, oysters, liquid and top with crumbs. Bake at 400 degrees for 30 – 40 minutes.
