Home: Roanoke Age: 43 Sign: Pisces Occupation: Physical therapist assistant Education: She earned an associate's in landscaping from Lake City Community College in Florida and a degree in the physical therapist assistant program from the Jefferson College of Health Sciences. Nominated by: Friend and co-worker Meghan Farrington. According to Meghan, "Linda is a fabulous woman who would love to meet a fabulous man. She's a beautiful 43-year-old, and while she's dated several men, she's never had someone knock her socks off. Linda is the definition of a 'social butterfly,' and she's always ready for something new." About Linda: Independent, strong-willed and decisive, Linda's a go-getter who has worked and lived all over, from Hilton Head to the Bahamas. She's an Army brat who loves the beach but decided to settle in Roanoke partly for the sake of her 14-year-old daughter, Taylor. She's 5 feet 11 inches tall and doesn't let her height stop her from wearing 2-inch heels.
General interests: Linda likes sporting events, fresh air and exercising (she's a member of Gold's Gym). However, working and raising a child has been Linda's primary interests for many years — those two things have taken precedent over everything else in her life. Where you're most likely to find her: Everywhere and anywhere — drinking a beer at a Salem Avalanche game, listening to live music at the Coffee Pot or relaxing on her back deck. She likes the Brambleton Avenue area, but she's not crazy about downtown nightlife. Linda's routine when she goes out: Other than waiting for her girlfriends to get ready, she doesn't have one. The only consistency to her weekends is that she's usually the one who drives. How long she's been single: Basically, all of her life. She's never been married, and although she's had her fair share of dates she hasn't been in a serious relationship since the late '80s. Pro of single life: She's a self-reliant and level-headed person, which is certainly compatible with a single lifestyle.
Con of single life: Linda's at a point now where she wants to settle down; her parents and her sisters are happily married, and most of her friends have coupled up. In the past 10 years, her views on the dating scene have changed. She hasn't lived a traditional life, but as time passes, she's becoming more and more attracted to the traditional ideal. Whom she'd like to meet: She'd prefer to meet someone established (younger men aren't always as mature, she says), loyal and fun — someone who can bring out the good in her. She's not interested in the possessive, territorial type. In the next five years, Linda plans: To wait and see what her daughter's going to do after she graduates high school. If she hasn't met a mate by the time Taylor leaves for college, she knows she doesn't want to stay in her house by herself — it requires too much upkeep. How she rates Roanoke's single life on a scale of 1 to 5: 3 Why? Until recently, finding a significant other hasn't been a big focus for Linda. Plus, there doesn't seem to be a lot of eligible men in her age range. Best date: She's fine eating wings or dining at a fancy restaurant. She likes a guy who takes charge, a guy who can put the effort and forethought into the date. Linda prefers surprises to the dreaded "so what do you want to do?" question. Worst date: Linda's comfortable in most settings, whether it's a biker bar or 419 West. Her military upbringing has made her adaptable, and she has a hard time picturing a situation she wouldn't be comfortable in. How to approach Linda: Men often say they're intimidated by Linda, so she says "hats off to them" if they have the courage to initiate a conversation. Still, she cautions interested men to be natural and honest. You're not going to pull one over on her -- she's heard all the come on lines. Want to talk to Linda?
