This designated driver likes her road trips

Roanoke's Most Eligible: Marissa Wujek

Inside Out

Rose Wade is a 21-year-old Hollins University student and baby sitter extraordinaire with too little time on her hands. She enjoys procrastinating, reading and the day-to-day pleasures of life. For her, being single is a good excuse to get dressed up.

Marissa Wujek
Eric Brady | The Roanoke Times

Home: Roanoke County

Age: 23

Sign: Scorpio

Occupation: Assistant manager at Talbots clothing store

Education: A bachelor's in merchandise management with a concentration in clothing and textiles from Virginia Tech

Nominated by: Her friend, Angela Miller. Marissa recently moved back to town, and she's "one of the sweetest, most charming girls I've ever met."

About Marissa: Passionate, artistic and hardworking, Marissa's an only child, and she felt like a little adult at a young age. Caring and people-oriented, she has a history of volunteer service, including Red Cross blood drives.

General interests: Car shows (she's fond of the look of foreign cars), driving with her windows down, music (U2 and Coldplay are often at the top of her CD pile), travel (London is her dream destination) and her poodle, KoKo, whose full name is Kokomo Joe.

Where you're most likely to find her: Fork in the Alley, the Famous Anthony's at Crystal Spring or Barnes & Noble. She often takes road trips -- they're her thing.

Marissa's routine when she goes out: She plays her music loud before hitting the town, and she car pools with her pals because she's the designated driver.

How long she's been single: It's been nine months since her last serious relationship.

Pro of single life: The ability to be spontaneous -- to just pick up and go at her leisure. When she's not working, she can randomly see a movie or go for a drive without any attachment or checking in.

Con of single life: She watches way too much television -- reality TV somehow fills the void. Plus, when she has a free second, sometimes it's nice to have someone to hang out with; someone whom she can "make the meaningless stuff meaningful with."

Whom she'd like to meet: An honest, really funny guy who likes to try new things. Ideally, he should be both ambitious and laid-back -- it may seem like a contradiction; however, Marissa's ideal mate "knows what he wants in life but can still be chill about it."

In the next five years, Marissa wants: Unless she meets the right person in Roanoke, she'll probably move farther south. She lived in Charlotte for a bit after she graduated, and she wouldn't mind moving back. Professionally, she'd ultimately love to have her own store.

How she rates Roanoke's single life on a scale of 1 to 5: 3

Why? For our city size, Marissa thinks we have it pretty good. There's stuff to do, but she's over barhopping and it doesn't seem like there's much to do for fun outside of downtown.

Best date: Marissa's laid-back, and when she says, "I don't care what we do," she really means it. She's down with almost anything, from the dinner-and-a-movie date to hiking to simply swinging and talking at the park.

Worst date: Good conversation is vital -- silence or one-sided rants are the last things she wants. Fast-food dates aren't so hot, either.

How to approach Marissa: She's shy at first, but once she's comfortable, the shyness passes. Marissa appreciates a friendly, honest, engaging approach. Pick-up lines don't fly with her.
