Home: Roanoke

Age: 25

Sign: Scorpio

Occupation: Network and computer support at R&K Engineering

Education: A bachelor's in business administration with a minor in Spanish from Roanoke College.

Nominated by: Lisa Hart. Lisa called Chris "one of the most genuinely nice people I have ever met." Moreover, she said he's "a college graduate with a good job (ladies, I know this is important!) and a good sense of humor." Chris is a "true gentleman -- an all-around good catch!"

About Chris: President of the Roanoke Valley Young Democrats society, vice chair of membership on the Square Society and on the Phoebe Needles Center board, Chris still can't believe he's actually old enough to be on a board. His parents are both in the science division at Ferrum College, and he basically grew up on a small college campus. He's been to 48 states; Alaska and Hawaii are the only two missing from his list. Passionate about Spanish culture and language (he's been to Spain twice and he tries to read a Spanish paper every day), cultural awareness and tolerance are top priorities for Chris. A youth group adult leader at Christ Episcopal Church, Chris is outgoing, optimistic, energetic and, obviously, active.

General interests: Chris was a Boy Scout growing up, and he still appreciates the outdoors -- he likes to camp, bike and canoe.

Where you're most likely to find him: Working out at Gold's Gym, participating in numerous community projects or looking for new things to do with his friends on the weekends -- they try to do it all, whether it's grabbing a drink at Cornerstone or racing go-karts at Thunder Valley.

Chris's routine when he goes out: Chris goes to the gym after work three to four times a week. He's consistent about fitness as long as he grabs his gym bag and goes; if he lingers at home long enough to sit down, he's a goner.

How long he's been single: Three years

Pro of single life: It's an opportunity to find out more about yourself and what you really like to do.

Con of single life: You don't have someone you can share the intimate details of your life with. In Chris' experience, you can share more with a significant other than with your closest friends and family members.

Whom he'd like to meet: A caring woman and hopeless romantic who's gifted with the ability to see the best in other people.

In the next five years, Chris would like to: Expand his out-of-country traveling experience beyond Spain and Ireland.

How he rates Roanoke's single life on a scale of 1 to 5: 3

Why? Roanoke's broadened its scope in the last five to 10 years, and though it's not a big city, Chris doesn't like being lost in a crowd. He likes seeing people he knows when he's out.

Best date: He worries it might sound cliche, but he thinks having a picnic with a view of the parkway sounds ideal.

Worst date: It's important to him that his date have fun, and he would feel uncomfortable if she were having a bad time.

How to approach Chris: Breaking the ice isn't always easy, so confidence goes a long way.
