Home: Christiansburg Age: 41 Sign: Aries Occupation: News director at WFNR Radio/Cumulus Broadcasting in the New River Valley School: Bachelor's in radio and TV communication from Radford University Nominated by: The women in his office. Marty's female co-workers think "he needs to have more fun." About Marty: A high-energy baseball nut, Marty splits his time between a busy work schedule and a bunch of community activities, which include state auctions on the weekends and umpiring girls fast-pitch softball games. As a former mascot for the Salem Avalanche who also worked in the front office for the Roanoke Rush (the semi-pro football team), he's both outspoken and always on the go. General interests: The outdoors! Hiking, camping, fishing, mountain biking -you name it, Marty's probably into it. Where you're most likely to find him: At the Farmhouse Restaurant in Christiansburg or at Macado's in Christiansburg or Blacksburg. In the summer, Marty can be spotted at First Fridays in downtown Roanoke.
Marty's routine when he goes out: If he's not running all over town, he has friends over for a beer or two. How long he's been single: 3 years Pro of single life: Not having to be accountable to anyone else. Plus, Marty's schedule revolves around the news, so sometimes it's hard to find the time needed to devote to that special someone. Con of single life: Not having someone to talk to at the end of the day - especially someone who understands you and whom you can be silly with. Whom he'd like to meet: An intelligent, creative and college-educated lady who's up-to-date on her current events How he rates Roanoke's single life on a scale of 1 to 5: 6 Why? When people assess Roanoke's dating scene, they usually don't note everything Roanoke has to offer. Simply put, most folks don't take advantage of things such as Virginia's Explore Park, the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Science Museum of Western Virginia or all the annual festivals that are within an hour's drive. Best date: In the winter, a carriage ride through Dickens of a Christmas, and a picnic and fireworks during the summer. Worst date: As a blind date veteran, Marty knows the pitfalls of being set up. However, he also believes most dates are what you make of them. If you want to have a good time, you probably will. How to approach Marty: He prefers a straightforward, open, easy approach. |
