Home: Blacksburg

Age: 33

Sign: Cancer

Occupation: Marketing consultant at Warm Hearth Village

School: He received his bachelor's in psychology from Virginia Tech and his master’s in counseling from Radford University.

Nominated by: Co-worker Blair Lawton. The staff at Warm Hearth holds Shannon in the highest regard because, in Blair’s words, “he’s got a superb personality and he’s a fantastic person to be around.”

About Shannon: Soft-spoken and genuine, Shannon is equipped with both a great sense of humor and an adventurous streak. A true people person, Shannon is able to enjoy what life has to offer.

General interests: Cars (particularly his silver and black Chrysler convertible and dark green Cadillac Eldorado), antiques, martinis (particularly blue and chocolate martinis), jazz, and animals (particularly his golden retriever, Montana).

Where you're most likely to find him: When in the area, Shannon likes to cut loose at Dolce or Metro in downtown Roanoke or the Nerv in Blacksburg. Oftentimes Shannon hops into one of his polished automobiles for a spontaneous out-of-town shopping excursion to Richmond or D.C.

Shannon's routine when he goes out: He likes to see where the day takes him.

How long he's been single: 1 1/2 years

Pro of single life: It’s a two-way street because, on one hand, he has the freedom to jump in his car and go wherever, whenever. On the other hand, sometimes he thinks the freedom seems overrated when you don’t have a passenger to share your travels with.

Con of single life: It’s nice to have someone who can introduce you to new things in life.

Whom he'd like to meet: A genuine chap who’s got a sense of direction and a zest for life. Shannon’s more concerned with an individual’s steadfast traits like honesty and kindness rather than his music taste or DVD collection.

How he rates Roanoke's single life on a scale of 1 to 5: 2

Why? Roanoke is slowly moving in the right direction, but there’s still not enough geared for young professionals. Also, it’s hard to strike up a conversation when you go out by yourself because people seem shy and hard to approach.

Best date in Roanoke: A drive through the countryside, then dinner at 419 West or 309 Market Street Grille. If everything goes well, dancing and drinks downtown.

Worst date in Roanoke: Shannon’s never had a bad outing, but a bingo date is his worst case scenario. If it came down to bingo or death, he would probably shoot himself.

How to approach Shannon: Initiative wins his favor — an outstretched hand or unsolicited compliments are always welcome.
