Home: Roanoke

Age: 27

Sign: Libra

Occupation: She works full time as a licensed professional counselor at the Roanoke Valley Juvenile Detention Center, and she teaches beaded jewelry classes at Michael's part time.

School: Earned a bachelor's in psychology from Radford University and received a master's in counseling from Virginia Tech.

About Pam: A quiltmaker, gardener and registered Democrat, Pam rations much of her time between Roanoke's First Presbyterian Church and outdoor music jams. She's resolved, articulate and speaks with a strong Southern accent.

General interests: Hiking, biking, camping and canoeing

Where you're most likely to find her: She's not a morning person, but she manages to work out at New Fitness three times a week before work. Recently she's been to the Widespread Panic and Bela Fleck concerts.

Pam's routine when she goes out: Unless there's live music involved, Pam's a "hang around the house kind of person," and she likes having people over for cook-outs.

How long she's been single: 1 year

Pro of single life: You don't have to shave as much.

Con of single life: There's nobody to cook for. A Vegetarian Times subscriber, Pam's specialty is fresh vegetables.

Whom she'd like to meet: Someone who can appreciate the wide constellation of her unique traits.

How she rates Roanoke's single life on a scale of 1 to 5: 3

Why? She hates to be negative, but Roanoke needs a stronger music community. If Roanoke attracted more bands, the younger population would grow. As of now, people often have to drive at least two or three hours to see a show.

Best date in Roanoke: A show at the Can Company, a new performance and artist venue located on Albemarle Avenue in Roanoke.

Worst date in Roanoke: Nothing's less appealing than country music, wrestling or hockey.

How to approach Pam: Take one of her classes at Michael's, e-mail her or tell her a joke, because she appreciates a good sense of humor.
