Catie Holt Home: Roanoke. Age: 21. Sign: Cancer. Occupation: Customer service/administrative for Bulk Materials Engineers in Roanoke.
School: Enrolled in the graphic art design program at Virginia Western Community College. About Catie: She keeps herself busy with school and work, but she still makes time to hang out with friends and have a good time. She loves music, art and good conversation. She's a vegetarian, and she likes to be adored. General interests: Music (she plays the guitar), chess and board games. Where you're most likely to find Catie: It used to be Kara O'Caen's Irish Pub, but now it's probably the grocery store. Catie's routine when she goes out: She grabs a table with her girlfriends, checks the place out and waits for someone to talk to her. How long Catie has been single: Almost seven months now. "Hooray for me!" she said. Pro of single life: Independence. Con of single life: Loneliness. Who Catie'd like to meet: People who know what the word dating means, meaning someone who doesn't want to make her his wife. She's also into "Emo boys" - but not the sad kind. If you have to ask what that means, then you're probably not her type. How Catie rates Roanoke's single life on a scale of 1 to 5: 3 Why? It's hard to find time to date. Best date in Roanoke: Dinner in a nonchain restaurant and drinks downtown. If she likes the date, then maybe they would catch a movie or a live band. Worst date in Roanoke: Going any place that has to do with dead animals, such as a hunting range or a restaurant with animal head decor. How to approach Catie: The main thing is to come at her with confidence and then make her laugh really hard. If you send your friend over to ask her to dance, you have lost all hope of getting to know her. Want to talk to Catie? E-mail us at io@roanoke.com and we'll hook you up.
Will Murray Home: Roanoke. Age: 28. Sign: Aries. Occupation: Contract manager for Door and Hardware in Rocky Mount. School: Majored in business at Virginia Tech.
About Will: Adventurous, extroverted and passionate. General interests: Anything that involves the water (scuba diving, water skiing, sailing) and Virginia Tech football. He's also working on obtaining his pilot's license. Where you can find Will: In the winter, Corned Beef & Company. In the summer, on a boat in the front of the cliffs at Smith Mountain Lake. Will's routine when he goes out: He has friends over around 8:30 p.m., they pile into one car around 10 and head for a low-key bar like 309 First Street, then they head over to Cornerstone or Metro and eventually end the night at Corned Beef. How long has Will been single: About one year. Pro of Single Life: Spontaneity. Con of Single Life: Lack of companionship. Who Will'd like to meet: An open, sincere, intelligent, "no drama" girl who cares about her appearance. How Will would rate Roanoke's single life on a scale of 1 to 5: 4. Why? The biggest problem with Roanoke's single scene is the lack of young professionals. It's hard to go out by yourself and meet people because everybody knows everybody. There are a lot of cliques, but there are also a lot of nice establishments. Best date in Roanoke: Dinner at Montano's (his favorite restaurant), after-dinner drinks someplace quiet like 309 or Metro, and then dessert at Maggie Moo's. Worst date in Roanoke: The movies. It's hard to get to know somebody when you're staring at a screen in a dark room. How to approach Will: A good friend of his once walked past him in a bar and said, "Do you believe in love at first sight? If not, I can walk by again." It was cheesy, but it made him laugh.
