Floyd celebrates a new municipal park with a big old party full of good music that leans heavily toward country roots. Headliner Adrienne Young, based in Charlottesville, does country with a folk perspective, focusing on such subjects as sustainable agriculture. The Roanoke Valley's own Blue Moonshine features good harmonies, tight picking and interesting original songs.

Gemini Fest 2009
With Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, Barrelhouse, Sol Creech, Homewreckers, Alliens, Lazy Man Dub Band and more
Blue Mountain will be alive with reggae, blues, rock and more this year, with 12 bands set for its two stages. It's the second consecutive Gemini Fest appearance for headliner Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad. Sol Creech and Alliens are perennials as well. Familiar is good here.

Wayne C. Henderson Music Festival and Guitar Competition
With J.D. Crowe and the New South, Beverly Smith and Carl Jones, Raymond Fairchild, Jeff Little with Josh Scott, the Snyder Family, and Wayne Henderson and Friends
The 15th annual Henderson fest is full of good traditional music, as always. But this year, the guitar competition has a new twist. The winner will receive a Brazilian rosewood guitar built by the master luthier and festival namesake. And the festival is giving away $15,000 in scholarships to young musicians studying Appalachian music.
