A Buchanan guy combines with a "Brady Bunch" kid tonight on the CMT network's highest profile reality show.
Songwriter Matt Ramsey worked with Maureen "Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!" McCormick to write a song you can hear during the 8 p.m. finale of "Gone Country."
McCormick, Dee Snider, Sisquo, Diana DeGarmo and Bobby Brown are among the past-their-commercial-prime entertainers who have taken a crash course in the "country lifestyle," courtesy of show host John Rich, of Big and Rich fame. Each cast member wrote a song with help from two professional Nashville songwriters. Tonight, Rich selects the winner, "most worthy of country stardom," according to a CMT news release.
Ramsey and Billy Lawson, a Muscle Shoals, Ala., writer whose songs have been recorded by such artists as Delbert McClinton, Lee Ann Womack and Tim McGraw, were shown working with the woman better known as Marcia. McCormick has long wanted a country music career.
"What we did was get her to tell us about her life and what was going on in it," Ramsey said. "As she was opening up about her family and stuff she went through with drugs, you see that she's not the sweet innocent Marcia Brady that everybody knows. I thought we should take advantage of that, to show people the real person."
McCormick will perform the song, tentatively titled "For Being Me," with Big and Rich's road band. Ramsey will be watching from home.
"There was no reason for me to do that," he said of taking the stage. "I just wanted to step back and let it happen and see it like everyone in the audience. Sometimes on stage, you really don't know how it's going."
