With Mountain Heart and Tony Rice, Junior Sisk and Ramblers Choice, Audie Blaylock and Redline, Randy Waller and the Country Gentlemen, and more
The seventh version of this bluegrass-centric hoedown is probably the best yet. Hear some of the best local acts, along with giants such as Tony Rice with Mountain Heart -- a show that will be a homecoming of sorts for Mountain Heart's Josh Shilling, who lived in Roanoke for years before taking off for Nashville, Tenn.

Skaggs has been at the bluegrass and country music game for nearly 40 years. Both he and his band are among the very best this country has to offer -- combined, they've won eight Grammy awards.

Intriguing triple-bill here. If Jews & Catholics, a two-piece act from Winston-Salem, N.C., sound live like they do on mp3, it should be an excellent headlining set. The Bastards of Fate always bring the musical entertainment. 3 AM Friday are the new kids on the bill and have a Web site full of rock for you to sample.

Terry Garland

Rose Kingery Memorial Benefit
with Lazy Man Dub Band, Phenomenal Phonetics, Relacksachian and an open jam
Musicians love to jam out to help friends who face tragedy. That's what these acts are doing in honor of Rose Kingery, whose body was found July 17 at her home in Hardy. Her husband, Philip Allan Kingery, has been charged with murder. Lazy Man Dub Band's percussionist, Matt Leonard, put this show together to help out Rose Kingery's surviving children.

New Riders of the Purple Sage

This Grateful Dead spinoff act, best known for the tune "Panama Red," lost band co-founder John "Marmaduke" Dawson last week. He had not been with the band in some time because of health problems, but this reconstituted pack of riders aims to keep his legacy alive.
