Bassist Larry Kirkland and guitarist Jack Hinshelwood produced and played on "Buddy Pendleton & Friends -- Gems From A Master Fiddler," which features a pack of wonderful traditional musicians joining Patrick County fiddle giant Pendleton. This event always draws the upper echelon in classical guitarists. Paraguayan Luz Maria Bobadilla sounds flawless, fast or slow. Flamenco guitarist Marija Temo also dances and sings. Event organizer Robert Trent is an amazing player, and his teenage protege, Max Hiner, won the high school category in a national competition last year.

Left without a place to live after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, the members of Honey Island Swamp Band came together in San Francisco in order to "cook up something new, and quick," according to the band's online biography. Eventually the group made it back to the Big Easy and has been turning out some sweet, country- and blues-soaked soul music. The group includes former members of soul man Eric Lindell's band.
