There's something interesting about The Farewell Drifters beyond their well-written, sharply played bluegrass music.
The band has a lead-singing frontman, Zach Bevill, but Bevill's not the one doing most of the talking onstage.
That task goes to mandolinist Joshua Britt, whose interests include storytelling, according to biographical information at the band's Web site.
Don't groan, though. Britt is really funny. When the band last played at Kirk Avenue Music Hall, a July show opening for Cadillac Sky, Britt kept the crowd cracking up between songs -- mostly with stories about how one band member or another came to join the act.
There's no sense in trying to replicate this Kentucky boy's stories in print. Instead, you can get a taste by listening to a podcast, which you can find on this story at roanoke.com/entertainment or blogs.roanoke.com/cutnscratch.
Get the full dose of pickin' and grinnin' on Thursday night.
