Top tickets: Music to ring in the new year
New Year's Eve

File | March
The Seed's drummer, Brent Hoskins

Guitarist Brent Hoskins
The Seed
A lot of good bands are playing on New Year's Eve. But only one band -- barring any random, internecine explosions among other bands in town -- is playing its final show on New Year's Eve. The Seed was tearing up the Roanoke music scene, twice winning best band in the newspaper's music poll. Then they decided to move to Washington, D.C., in a change we chronicled at roanoke.com/entertainment/insideout/music/wb/xp-157126.
Turns out that in the end, they couldn't agree on the move and decided to break up. Seed drummer/songwriter Brent Hoskins said the band members remain close -- he and guitarist/singer Gabe "The Ambassador" Lewis even plan to continue writing together. Lewis said he plans a move soon to San Diego. Go to this story at roanoke.com/entertainment to hear some Seed music plus a bonus track from Hoskins featuring a friend of the band's who had overindulged in certain substances before placing a phone call to percussionist John "Slothman" Spence on Sept. 11, 2001.
