Allan's latest song, "Drinkin' Dark Whiskey," is in the best traditions of country music, yet he still keeps a broad fan base that includes people who really don't know anything about original country. Too good to call a hat act. Lucas is about what you expect to hear on country radio these days — William Faulkner must spin in his grave about the attempts at Southern imagery in today's songs — but she does have a really nice voice.

A steaming pile of local talent hits the Dolphin's floor tonight. The Lobsters grind it out and will surely pitch their new 7-inch (record of their favorite blues). Illbotz, our podcast guests this week, throw ridiculous rhymes and skits at you. Everyone says that Violent Spectators guitarist Jay Wilson is amazing, but we've never heard him (even though he writes our Q&As!).
The Lobsters continue at the Dolphin on Saturday, playing with the Spinns and the Dreadful Yawns.

Last week while dining alfresco, I was treated to the soulful sound of John Prine's "Sam Stone" by three highly inebriated guys apparently serenading the one female in their midst.
