Cheesy ideas
Fancy ways to serve up your cheese course
Tiles
These stylish, erasable ceramic labels can take an ordinary cheese plate and make it seem like a fancy affair. Each tile set comes with a dry erase marker, so you can write Gouda at one shower and Velveeta at the next. There are several styles available, including Fleur-di-Lis, Shell and Vine, as well as a coordinating cheese knife and serving plate. The company also makes PlaceTiles (place cards), menu tiles, bottle stoppers and napkin rings. Find the CheeseTiles ($29.95 for a set of 4) online at placetile.com.
Slate boards
The charcoal-gray slate is quarried in Vermont and is covered with a food-safe sealer. It is backed with felt and available in two sizes (20-by-12-inch boards are $24.95 and 12-inch- square boards are $18.95). Available at crateandbarrel.com.
