Fallen tree in Glenvar area causes power outage, water problems

A power outage that began Friday night in the Glenvar area of Roanoke County shut down the county's water treatment facility at Spring Hollow Reservoir and cut electricity to about 1,100 households.

Todd Burns, a spokesman for American Electric Power, said the outage began about 9:50 p.m. Friday after a tree fell on a power line. Electricity was restored by 12:15 a.m. Saturday to about 640 households, he said, because the utility rerouted power from another direction. Burns said the remaining households had power restored by about 5:35 a.m. Dean Wood, an employee of the water treatment facility at Spring Hollow, said the plant was offline for several hours because of the power outage.

"Some areas may have had no water, and some may have had lower pressure," he said.
