My daughter, who plays princess at every opportunity, loves this book. I like it for different reasons.

This fairy tale begins when a gust of wind carries away the Pickle Princess' sash during the Picawash County Farm Show Parade. The wind carries the sash to a sleeping pig. When she wakes and sees the sash, Pig concludes that if she has a sash, she must be a princess.

A princess must have a crown and jewels, so she makes herself a crown from a teacup and necklace from a string of daisies.

Soon, she convinces farm friends Cow, Rooster and Goat that she is indeed a princess. Pony remains a skeptic.

Soon, Princess Pig discovers that being a princess isn't all bubble baths and lullabies. There are official portraits to paint and fans to greet. And princesses can't roll in the nice, cool mud. To make matters worse, she can't party with her "common" friends anymore.

With the help of Pony, she realizes that she really isn't princess material. She's just a regular pig who likes to take a spin on the dance floor with her friends, and she couldn't be happier about it.

The illustrations of Pig and her friends help to draw you into their story. The pages are full of visual detail, but they aren't complicated or fussy.

I like the book's theme of being true to yourself. It's worth repeating to my little one at home.
