Smoking status of Virginia restaurants

DataSphere Logo

Data for all cities and counties

Starting Dec. 1, Virginia will join a growing number of states which ban smoking in restaurants, with some exemptions – private clubs, outdoor areas, and parts of restaurants structurally separated from the main dining area. According to data from the Virginia Department of Health, about 70 percent of Virginia’s 16,000 restaurants are already non-smoking. Another 28 percent that still have smoking areas or who allow smoking everywhere. (About two percent have only outdoor seating and aren’t affected.) On the map below, see which localities have the highest percentages of non-smoking restaurants already.
