Virginia lawmakers' 321 requests
Some call them "earmarks." Others prefer "congressionally-directed spending." To some, they're just "pork." Federal lawmakers commonly make targeted federal funding requests for specific projects. The watchdog group Taxpayers for Common Sense identified over 13,000 of them in the 2007-2008 fiscal year. Virginia's delegation had a hand in $1.03 billion worth. They range in scope from major defense and infrasturcture projects to small needs in members' home districts. Others are for small local projects. Get the details on all of them in this database.
