2005 and 2006 data

How green is your city or county when it comes to recycling? Get an idea here based on the percentage of municipal solid waste your trash collection agency recycles. The rate is based on the percentage of municipal waste that gets recycled, but the reporting agency can also boost its rate by claiming credits for recycling of non-municipal waste and for waste reduction programs. Statewide for 2006, the recycling rate was 38.4 percent. About 3.7 million tons of waste was recycled in Virginia last year, according to the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality.
