Global Youth Service Day
Volunteers ages 12 to 25 are needed to work on projects at Roanoke sites including Highland Park, the Roanoke Rescue Mission and the Taubman Museum of Art.

Run, walk or jog to raise money for cystic fibrosis research.

English language tutoring
Refugee and Immigration Services will hold a training session for volunteers interested in teaching survival English skills to recently arrived refugees from Iraq, Bhutan, Burma and Somalia.

Pet food donations
Black Dog Salvage is now a collection site for pet food donations for the Pets Eat Too program, which supplies the Manna Ministries food pantry and Meals on Wheels.
When: Ongoing. Donate at least six cans or an 8-pound bag of pet food through April 30 to receive a 25 percent discount on Black Dog merchandise.
Cellphone donations
Give your old cellphones to 911 Cell Phone Bank, which will recycle them and give them to law enforcement and victim services agencies for distribution to senior citizens, victims of domestic abuse and others in need.
