Hospice volunteer training
Good Samaritan Hospice will hold training sessions for new volunteers.
When: Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 6 to 9 p.m., starting March 17. Sessions run for four weeks. Application deadline is March 12.

Youth Conservation Corps
The state Department of Conservation and Recreation is taking applications for the 2009 Youth Conservation Corps. The program is open to high school students age 14 to 17. Participants will work on projects including trail construction and shoreline improvement. Work sessions are June 21 to July 11 and July 19 to Aug. 8 at Virginia state parks. Room, board and a $500 stipend are provided. Deadline for applications is April 11.

The Muscular Dystrophy Association is looking for young men age 17 or older to volunteer at its camp, July 5 to 10, at Smith Mountain Lake.

Compass USA is seeking host families for about 25 Chinese high school students who will visit the Roanoke Valley from July 19 to Aug. 2.
