Camp counselors
The Muscular Dystrophy Association is seeking volunteer counselors for its weeklong summer camps, which are held across the country. Applicants must be at least 16 years old and be able to lift and care for a person between the ages of 6 and 17.

Coat drive
The Warm Hearts & Warm Coats drive is collecting coats for needy Roanoke-area residents. Coats should be in good condition. Coats will be distributed by the Salvation Army.

Fresh Air Fund
Host a child from New York City this summer through the Fresh Air Fund's Friendly Town program. Each year, up to 5,000 children visit volunteer host families from Virginia to Maine for up to two weeks.

Bedford Ride, a nonprofit organization that provides free transportation to nonemergency medical appointments for elderly, disabled and low-income residents of Bedford and Bedford County, is seeking volunteer drivers.
