Toy drive

Bring a new, unwrapped toy for donation to a participating Chick-fil-A restaurant and get a free peppermint chocolate chip milkshake.

When: Monday through Dec. 13.

Where: Participating locations in Roanoke, Christiansburg, Martinsville, Lynchburg and Danville

Love Light Tree

For $10, sponsor a "love light" in honor or memory of someone special. For $25, receive a porcelain ornament. Proceeds go to Good Samaritan Hospice.

When: Trees will be lit at 10 a.m. Tuesday (New River Valley Mall) and 10 a.m. Wednesday (Tanglewood Mall). Displays will remain up until Jan. 2.

Santa to a Senior

Buy a present, wrap presents or help deliver gifts to needy senior citizens.

Enchanted Eve volunteers

Roanoke County is seeking volunteers to help with Enchanted Eve, its alcohol-free community New Year's Eve celebration.

Volunteer drivers

Bedford Ride, a nonprofit organization that provides free transportation to nonemergency medical appointments for elderly, disabled and low-income residents of Bedford and Bedford County, is seeking volunteer drivers. The organization supplies the vehicle, gas and insurance.

Roanoke Tree Stewards

Roanoke Parks and Recreation is seeking volunteers to become tree stewards who will prune and plant trees in public areas, conduct tree inventories and other activities.

When: 7-9 p.m. Tuesdays starting Jan. 13 through the end of March; 30 hours training and 30 hours volunteer work required.

Volunteers are needed to assist people with their income tax returns.
