Virginia Tech/UVa Fan Blood Challenge
The American Red Cross wants fans and alumni to participate in this year's blood drive. All donors can enter to win tickets to the Nov. 29 Tech-UVa game and other prizes.
When: 1-7 p.m. Monday at WDBJ studios; noon-6 p.m. Tuesday at Roanoke and Botetourt athletic clubs, or 2-7 p.m. at Bonsack Baptist Church

Love Light Tree
For $10, sponsor a "love light" in honor or memory of someone special. For $25, receive a porcelain ornament. Proceeds go to Good Samaritan Hospice.
When: Trees will be lit at 10 a.m. Dec. 2 (New River Valley Mall) and 10 a.m. Dec. 3 (Tanglewood Mall). Displays will remain up until Jan. 2.

Roanoke Tree Stewards
Roanoke Parks and Recreation is seeking volunteers to become tree stewards who will prune and plant trees in public areas, conduct tree inventories and other activities.
When: 7-9 p.m. Tuesdays starting Jan. 13 through the end of March; 30 hours training and 30 hours volunteer work required.

Buy a present, wrap presents or help deliver gifts to needy senior citizens.

Toy drive to benefit the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve's Toys for Tots.

Hospice Open House
Volunteers will offer information about advance directives, end-of-life discussions and hospice philosophy to mark National Hospice Month.
