The Roanoke Valley chapter of Jack and Jill of America hosted 370 teens and their chaperones during the 55th Mid-Atlantic Regional Teen Conference June 20-22.

As a community service project, the organization donated 27 baskets -- one from each of the mid-Atlantic chapters -- of healthy food items to the Second Harvest Southwest Virginia Food Bank.

Members of the Smith Mountain Lake Lions Club held a White Cane Day event at two Westlake Towne Center locations Saturday.

The white cane with a red band has been used for 70 years to alert others that the person with the cane is blind or visually impaired.

The Smith Mountain Lake club sold brooms that were assembled by the visually impaired and SML license plate holders; cash donations were also received.
