Several Liberty High School students competed in the regional National History Day competition March 21 and will advance to the state competition later this month.
Emily Overfelt won first place, and Megan Lee received third place in Individual Documentary.
Mike Vanderwerker won first in Individual Web site.
Kenzie Vanderwerker, Kennan Angel, Lorin Cahow and Phoebe Weber worked together and placed first in Group Performance.

The Community High School of Arts and Academics in Roanoke has been selected to receive the 2009 Perry F. Kendig Award for Outstanding Arts Education Program.
The award recognizes support, involvement and accomplishment in the arts.

Family Service of the Roanoke Valley is looking for volunteers to participate in Global Youth Service Day.
Youth ages 12 to 25 will help from noon to 3 p.m. April 25. The projects will benefit Wasena Park, River's Edge Sports Complex, the Mill Mountain Discovery Center and Zoo, Mill Mountain trails, Highland Park, the Rescue Mission and the Taubman Museum of Art.

The deadline for applications for the 2009 Youth Leadership Forum has been Extended to April 15.
High school students with disabilities selected as delegates for the conference will participate in a program that will address leadership development, career and higher education awareness, assistive technology, advocacy and teamwork.
The Forum is at Christopher Newport University from July 13 to 17. Scholarships will cover the entire cost for delegates to attend.
