The Roanoke Valley Governor's School placed 13th in the First Tech Robotics Competition in February.

After joining another team for the semifinals, the combined team placed fourth overall.

More than 100 Roanoke County middle and high school students competed in the county's science fair on Feb. 28. All first- and second-place winners -- a total of 40 projects -- will advance to the regional level.

Students advancing include Nadia Aly, Daniel Vieth, Dylan Tokotch, Seth Yost, Matthew Meise, Ethan Scott, Jared Johnson, Alexandra Clark, Sarah Zillioux, Colin Bittner, Alexander Paul Thomas, David Moylan, Nicholas Kidd, Kelsey Rae Tripp, Jordan Guilli, Suellen Li, Hayden Smith, Abby Caldwell, Andrew Johnson and Matthew Gallimore.

During the first two weeks of February, Fallon Park Elementary School collected more than 1,000 items as part of a food drive to support a local food pantry.
