ArchiveNick Weirup of Blue Ridge was selected as the winner of "An Artistic Discovery," a districtwide congressional art contest sponsored by U.S. Rep. Bob Goodlatte. The Lord Botetourt High School rising junior's watercolor, "The Girl Behind the Barn Door," was chosen by Goodlatte to represent Virginia's 6th Congressional District, which stretches from the Roanoke Valley up the Interstate 81 corridor through the Shenandoah Valley. Nick's work is on display inside the United States Capitol. The session runs from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays on the following dates: July 14 to 17 is for high schoolers, July 21 to 24 is for middle school students and July 28 to 31 is for upper elementary school-aged children. All three of these sessions are still available. The camp's focus is to provide students with a supportive but fun summer camp, and activities are intended to create positive teamwork experiences. The application fee is $100 and annual tuition fees are $5,400 per year with financial aid available. The students are 15 to 18 years old and speak English.
