Three airmen who are stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio are among Roanoke Valley residents who have completed basic military training or mobilized for overseas duty.
The airmen are: Michael Shell, a 2008 graduate of William Byrd High School, and son of Diane Phillips of Vinton and Mark Shell of Roanoke; Brian Hawks, a 2008 Salem High School graduate and son of Brenda and Doug Hawks of Salem; and Nicholas Altice, a 2009 graduate of William Byrd and son of Brandi Parker of Vinton.

Pvt. Andrew Keys has graduated from Army basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. He is the son of Tangela Keys of Salem and John Keys of Staunton. Keys is a 2009 graduate of Riverheads High School.

Pvt. Blake Parsley has graduated from Army basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
He is the son of William Parsley of Roanoke and a 2009 graduate of Northside High School.

Army Reserve Pfc. Troy Brogan has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. Brogan is the son of Arley Brogan Jr. of Roanoke.

Army National Guard Sgt. Lisa Easter has been mobilized and activated for deployment overseas to a base in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, the official name given to military operations involving members of the U.S. armed forces and coalition forces participating in efforts to free and secure Iraq.
Easter, a team leader, is a member of the 229th Military Police Company based in Virginia Beach. She has served in the military for eight years.
She is the daughter of Joseph and Diana Easter of Roanoke and a 1987 graduate of Patrick Henry High School. Easter received an associate degree in 2005 from the National College of Business.
