'09 Jabberwock busy with duties

Morgan Danielle Allen, the 2009 Miss Jabberwock, has represented the Roanoke Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority at several events during the summer and fall.
Allen, a senior at Northside High School, has served as mistress of ceremonies for the sorority's Celebration Youth program, worshipped with the scholarship recipients and their families and volunteered at the Henry Street Festival with sorority members.
She is the daughter of Timothy and Myra Allen.
The Deltas annually sponsor a Miss Jabberwock production to raise money for scholarships and community service projects.
The other 2009 winners are: Ischia Bangura, daughter of Alpha and Barbara Bangura, first runner-up; Kayla Flood, daughter of Tammy Parker and Tim Flood, second runner-up; and Ashleigh Preston, daughter of Roger Preston and Adana Preston, third runner-up.
In announcing the 2009 winners, the sorority also said it is seeking contestants for its 2010 production, which will be April 23. For more information or to participate, call 580-9202. Gloria Manns is chapter president.

Army Pvt. Joshua Cross of Roanoke has graduated from One Station Unit Training at the Army Infantry School at Fort Benning in Columbus, Ga.
The training consisted of basic military training and advanced individual training.
Cross is a 2005 graduate of Patrick Henry High School.

Joshua Jenks, a Virginia Tech cadet, has graduated from the 32-day Army Reserve Officer Training Corps' Leader Development and Assessment Course, also known as Operation Warrior Forge, at Fort Lewis in Tacoma, Wash.
The primary focus of the course is to develop and evaluate each cadet's officer potential as a leader by exercising the cadet's intelligence, common sense, ingenuity and physical stamina.
Cadets in their junior and senior year of college must complete the leadership development course. Upon completing the course, the ROTC program and graduation from college, cadets are commissioned as second lieutenants in the Army, National Guard or Reserve.
Jenks is the son of Andrea and Guy Jenks of Salem and a 2006 graduate of Glenvar High School.
