Air Force Lt. Gen. Daniel Darnell is now serving as deputy commander of the U.S. Pacific Command at H.M. Camp Smith in Oahu, Hawaii.
Darnell, a 1971 William Byrd High School graduate, has been in the military for 34 years. He received a bachelor's degree in 1975 from Virginia Military Institute.
Darnell's wife, Vickie, also graduated from William Byrd.
Air Force Airman Dustin Williams has graduated from eight weeks of basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.
Williams is a 2001 graduate of Glenvar High School.

Army Reserve Staff Sgt. Joshua Williams has been mobilized and activated for deployment to an overseas base in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Williams, a signal support systems specialist, is normally assigned to the 395th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion in New Haven, Conn. He has nine years of military service and is a 1997 graduate of James River High School.
Army Reserve Spc. Pasquel Davis has been mobilized and activated for deployment to an overseas base in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Davis is a signal support systems specialist and is normally assigned to the 395th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion in New Haven, Conn. He has two years of military service.
Davis is the son of Stephanie Clayton of Roanoke and a 2007 graduate of William Fleming High School.

Pvt. Benjamin Adams recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot in Parris Island, S.C.
Adam is the son of Sandra and Melvin Adams of Hardy.
Pfc. Renita Leach recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot in Parris Island, S.C.
Leach is the daughter of James Lewis of Roanoke and Brenda Leach of Laurinburg, N. C.
