Patrick DelBuono of Roanoke has been inducted into the Saint Thomas More Society at Belmont Abbey College.
The college selected DelBuono from more than 800 applicants who were reviewed for membership in the society that recognizes students who have outstanding high school records and have distinguished themselves as young people of character.
DelBuono was one of 96 inductees during the college's Scholarship Weekend in February.

Two Roanoke-area residents are among the 17 recipients of scholarships from the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants Education Foundation for the 2009-10 academic year.
The foundation promotes business and accounting education, rewards academic excellence and encourages students to pursue promising careers.
This year, it awarded $27,500 to accounting college students across Virginia. Awards were given in several scholarship categories.
Stephen Soltis of Vinton received a $1,000 undergraduate scholarship and is attending Roanoke College.
Megan McInerney of Roanoke received a $2,500 doctoral scholarship and is attending Virginia Tech.

Photographer Vickie Holt of Roanoke won second place for January in a monthly photography contest sponsored by BetterPhoto.com.
More than 20,600 entries were submitted to the online photography contest, which attracted contestants from around the world and featured 10 categories.
Holt's image, "MODEST," garnered top honors in the Elements of Design category.
Categories in the monthly contest include nature and landscapes, animals, people, elements of design, digital darkroom, travel and place, flowers, details and macro, catch-all, and monthly theme.

Jeff Yalden, an award-winning youth motivational speaker, MTV "Made" life coach and author, is speaking to high school students, teachers and parents Thursday in Roanoke College's Bast Gymnasium.
The Foundation for Roanoke Valley's Youth Leadership Committee is sponsoring the 7 p.m. event where Yalden will focus on the importance of leadership, responsibility and making good choices.
The event is free, but tickets are required. Attendees also are asked to donate a new or used children's book to be distributed to needy children in the Roanoke community. For tickets, call the Foundation for Roanoke Valley at 985-0204.
