Ted Edlich's vision for a one-stop shop for the record number of residents facing home foreclosures and evictions has earned Total Action Against Poverty a $22,287 grant.
It was Edlich, TAP's chief executive officer, who came up with the idea of opening a Housing Loss Prevention and Education Center where patrons would receive counseling and/or direct financial assistance.
TAP received the grant to help operate the center at 141A Campbell Ave. S.W. from the Virginia Housing Development Authority during a recent conference of the Virginia Association of Housing Counselors.
TAP also received the prestigious Housing Counseling Empowerment Award during the conference.
The antipoverty agency was recognized for its innovation and creativity and its history of going the extra mile to help those in need, said awards chairwoman Shelita Adams of Loudoun County Family Services.
During the conference two TAP housing counselors, Charlotte Davis and Aldith Ellis, obtained CEU credits needed to maintain their Certified Comprehensive Housing Counselor Certifications. Sonya Cooper obtained her Certified Housing Counselor certification, and Antoinette Brown passed the Certified Comprehensive Housing Counselor's exam.
