Re: "Roanoke County gets walking grant"
It's a dangerous waste of money, one reader says.

Repeated extra sessions of the General Assembly called by Governor Kaine have reportedly cost us exorbitant sums. Our local representative is to be commended for refusinig to be pressured into more unneeded taxes.
Now, the governor is wasting another million dollars to encourage children to walk or bike to school. This very risky travel would not change the expense, energy consumption, nor pollution of the school bus fleet. It would only cause some child or children to be injured or killed.
A million dollars here and a million dollars there soon adds up. The governor needs to learn fiscal restraint and live within present tax means. Re-allocate available funds to the great need, as families have to do with their budgets.
